President Uhuru Kenyatta has attributed the reopening of Westgate mall to Kenyans’ resilience and bravery.

Kenyatta said upon opening the mall a week ago, its flagship store proceeded to record more sales on the first day than any other in the mall’s history indicating defiance against terror.

“We rose above our pain, and resolved to keep marching forward.  We are truly a nation that shames its saboteurs and detractors,” he said.

President Kenyatta acknowledged that in order to transform governance, democratic space is paramount adding that through the implementation of the new Constitution, Kenya has taken services closer to the people.

“Our people aspired for a new constitutional dispensation, which my Government has implemented in both letter and spirit. In just two years, we have fully devolved government and brought services closer to the people.”

The official opening ceremony was co-hosted by Presidents Kenyatta and U.S. President Barack Obama and was attended by several government officials including Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery, National Treasury CS Henry Rotich, Tourism CS Phyllis Kandie, Industrialization CS Adan Mohamed and 20 members of the American Congress.

Mining CS Najib Balala, Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore were also present.

The event, which began on Friday 24th ends on Sunday 26th, 2015.
