Kenyans hold protest over pastors acquittal in Mercy Njeri case

Using the hashtag ‘#justiceformercynjeri’, Kenyans on are now calling for justice after televangelist Pastor James Ng’ang’a was acquitted over the death of a woman in a road accident.

Pastor Ng’ang’a had been charged with causing the death of Mercy Njeri through reckless driving in 2015 but was acquitted on May 4 this year.

A Limuru court found that the pastor alongside driver Simon Kuria and police officers Christopher Nzioka and Patrick Baya had no case to answer as there was not enough evidence.

The decision has not been received well with the family of the late Njeri, including her husband who was injured in the accident, expressing their dismay over the acquittal.

The Director of Public Prosecutions has since indicated that he will appeal the ruling.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino on Friday also chimed in on the conversation criticising the court for finding the pastor not guilty.

A section of Kenyans gathered in town on Friday demanding for justice claiming that the Judiciary was compromised.

Interestingly, there were some who pledged their support for Pastor Ng’ang’a and applauded the court for finding him innocent.
