Kenyans on Twitter rally behind Nairobi girl whose mum suffered devastating stroke in Nanyuki

Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) in their numbers have rallied behind a Kenyan girl who made a passionate appeal on Twitter, asking her followers to come to the aid of her ailing mother.

Brenda Wanjiru who operates an ex-UK goods shop in Githurai says her mother who previously featured on Citizen TV’s “Mwanamke bomba” had been rendered immobile by a stroke.

Citizen Digital learnt that the middle-aged woman, Jackline Wamuyu who pioneered organic pest control  in Nanyuki collapsed at a funeral, suffering a stroke on the left side of her brain in January.

She was rushed to the Nanyuki hospital and then to the Mwea Karira hospital before ending up at her sister’s Nyeri home.

The latest developments have taken a toll on their family finances, leaving Wanjiru, a mother of one, and the sole breadwinner desperate, drained and helpless.

“Mum was rushed to Nanyuki Hosp. And then to Mwea Karira Hosp. and then to Nyeri and finally, had to be moved to live with her sister (my auntie) in Nyeri. And just like that, our two last born sisters were displaced, their Schooling disrupted and my life turned upside down,” she wrote.

Wanjiru says her mother who was until a few weeks ago, lively, bubbly and happy is a shell of her former self.

I went from seeing a bubbly n jovial mum to a woman I was now having to feed, help walk, take meds and watch struggle to talk. Mom has never mentioned my name since then. She is confined to her bedroom, requiring constant care, therapy and finances to manage her condition.

“I am the sole breadwinner in our family and I’m overwhelmed. With the help of relatives and friends, we managed to pay hefty hosp bills, buy meds, n stuff. Now that she has a stroke, she requires a daily nurse, a live-in caretaker (house girl), daily meds n a physiotherapist!” She added.

Her now viral update on Twitter in which she asked Kenyans to help her raise Ksh.200,000 caught attention of among others, lawyer and philanthropist Cliff Ombetta who sent Ksh.10,000.

The money she said, would be crucial in getting her mother the needed medicine, a caregiver, a daily nurse and physiotherapist.
