Kenyans Opposed to Laptops Project, Pollster

According to the latest survey conducted by IPSOS, majority of Kenyans prefer school laboratory centers as opposed to the one laptop per child project.

The survey also indicates that few Kenyans support the recent abolition of ranking for both primary and secondary schools with more than two thirds calling for the re-introduction of schools ranking.

The survey shows that 79% of Kenyans prefer a laptop laboratory for all students in each public school.

The survey also indicates that 30% of Kenyans feel the multibillion shilling laptop project has stalled due to insufficient funds while 27% think corruption in the procurement process is to blame with 19% accusing the Jubilee government of not being sincere about the laptop campaign pledge.

The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) and Jubilee supporters have also differed over the main reason for non implementation of the laptop project with opposition supporters blaming it on lack of commitment by Jubilee to honour the campaign pledge although Jubilee supporters attribute it to lack of funds.

On the issue of ranking the survey reveals that few Kenyans support the recent abolition of ranking of both primary and secondary schools with 71% calling for its re-introduction.

The survey funded by IPSOS, was conducted between March 28th and April 7th this year with 1,964 respondents being interviewed.
