Kenyans stranded in Juba accuse embassy of graft

As more Kenyans landed back home Tuesday afternoon, many more are said to be stranded in Juba with those still there blaming officers at the Kenyan Embassy in South Sudan for their predicaments.

With close to 800 Kenyans evacuated, those still in Juba claim the process is not transparent with allegations of junior Embassy officials asking them for bribes to secure a trip home.

The evacuation exercise begun over the weekend following relative calm that returned to the World’s youngest nation.

According to the government, those evacuated had followed due procedure and registered with the Kenyan Embassy in Juba.

Tension still remains high in South Sudan with calls from across the globe to President Salva Kiir and first Vice President Riek Machar to adhere to a peace agreement they signed in April this year.

Over 272 people have died in South Sudan since renewed fighting broke out in Juba between forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and first Vice President Riek Machar last week.
