Kenyans urged to avoid political, social gatherings as COVID-19 cases hit 40,620

Health CAS Rashid Aman has urged Kenyans to avoid all forms of political and social gatherings to help fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking during the Press briefing on Friday, Dr. Aman reported that 442 more people had tested positive raising the country’s total to 40,620.

“This is not the time to lower our guard. The weapon to fight this is to follow Ministry of Health rules. We must join hands to save our generation,” he said.

Dr. Aman noted that the new COVID-19 cases are from a sample size of 5,327 tested in the last 24 hours.

419 are Kenyans while 23 are foreigners: 286 are male and 156 are female.

Nakuru leads with 94 cases followed by Nairobi (80); MOmbasa (47); Uasin Gishu (22); Embu and Kisumu (20 each); Turkana (18); Meru (15); Trans Nzoia (14); Kisii (13); Garissa and Kilifi (12 each); Siaya and Kajiado (11 each); Baringo, Kiambu and Kericho (10 each); Taita Taveta (4); Kwale, Migori, Machakos, Nandi anf Vihiga (2 each); Bugoma, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Nyandarua, Kitui, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kakamega and Bomet (1 each).

Death-toll from coronavirus rose to 755 after four more patients succumbed to the disease, he said, adding that 166 patients had however been discharged after full recovery.

140 of the recoveries were home based while 26 were discharged from hospital: total number of recoveries now stands at 30,876.
