Kenyans who bribed their way out of Mandera quarantine facility to be charged

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has now revealed that a group of Kenyans paid a bribe in order to be irregularly released from a quarantine facility in Mandera County before their due date.

CS Kagwe, speaking while addressing a press conference at Afya House on Saturday, said the group will be charged as per provisions of the law.

The CS also urged police officers tasked with implementing government directives including manning of quarantine facilities that their job is to uphold the law and not assist in breaking it.

“I am aware that in the county of Mandera, and this has been confirmed to me by the governor, there are people who bribed their way out of quarantine. Both those who did that and those who let them off will face the full force of the law,” he said.

The Health minister beseeched individuals presently in quarantine facilities to serve their time responsibly and avoid such shortcuts if the war on the novel coronavirus is to be won.

“Everybody is being called upon to make a little sacrifice. What is required is a little bit more patience, sacrifice and understanding from you, your families, friends and Kenyans at large,” he said.

CS Kagwe applauded a section of Kenyans who have been informing authorities about individuals that violate the movement restrictions, further urging all citizens to follow suit.

“Ladies and gentlemen, until and unless we become disciplined, this disease is going to finish us,” he stated.
