Kenya’s coronavirus cases near the 9,000 mark as 447 test positive
Kenya has confirmed 447 more cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the tally of confirmed cases to 8,975, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has announced.
CS Kagwe was speaking in Mombasa on Thursday during the daily coronavirus briefing.
The new cases are from 3,803 samples tested in Kenya in the last 24 hours and brings the tally of samples tested so far to 200,311.
All the new cases are Kenyans aged between 1 and 88-years and include 280 males and 167 females.
The 447 positive cases are distributed in counties as follows: Nairobi 318, Kiambu 33, Kajiado 25, Nakuru 23, Machakos 18, Mombasa 14, Uasin-Gishu (7), Busia (3), Laikipia (2), Kericho (1), Makueni (1), Migori, (1), and Turkana (1).
In sub-counties the cases are distributed as follows; in Nairobi, the 318 cases are in; Dagoretti North (70), Westlands (43) Kibra (40), Embakasi East (35), Ruaraka (25), Starehe (20), Makadara (14), Emabakasi West (13), Embakasi South (11), Kasarani (10), Langata (10), Roysambu (9), Embakasi Central (6) and Embakasi South, Embakasi North, Kamukunji and Mathare (3 cases each).
In Kiambu the 33 cases are in Ruiru (12), Kikuyu and Kabete (4) cases each, Kiambaa (3), Thika, Lari and Kiambu, (2) cases each, Kabete, and cases each, Limuru, Githunguri, Gatundu South, and Juja one (1), cash each. In Kajiado, the 25 cases are in; Kajiado North (10). Kajiado Central and Loitokotok (6), cases each, and Kajiado East (3) while in Nakuru the 23 cases are in; Molo (23), Nakuru East (2), Gilgal, Naivasha and Nakuru West one (1) case each.
In Machakos, the 18 cases are in Athi River 17 and Machakos one (1) while in Mombasa, the 14 cases are in; Mvita (8), Changamwe (4), Jomvu and Likoni one (1) case each. In Uasin Gishu the (7) cases are in; Turbo (6) and Kesses one (1). In Busia all the (3) cases are in Teso North, in Laikipia all the (2) cases are in Laikipia East, in Kericho (1) case is in Ainamoi and in Makueni (1) case is in Makueni Town. In Migori one (1) case is in Kuria East and in Turkana (1) case is in Turkana West.
At the same time, four more patients have succumbed to the coronavirus, bringing the total number of fatalities so far to 173.
64 people have however recovered raising the number of recoveries to 2,657.
