Kenya’s COVID-19 caseload rises to 99,082 as 223 people test positive
The Ministry of Health on Saturday announced that 223 people tested positive for COVID-19 from a sample size of 7,748 tested in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 99,082.
From the cases, 195 are Kenyans while 28 are foreigners; 156 are males while 67 are females. The youngest is a seven-year-old child and the oldest is 90.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, in a statement to newsrooms, said 129 patients have recovered from the coronavirus, 115 of them from Home-Based Care while 14 were discharged from various facilities, taking total recoveries to 83,324.
CS Kagwe however noted that another 2 patients succumbed to the disease, raising the fatality to 1,728.
In terms of county distribution, the cases were as follows; Nairobi 127, Migori 19, Mombasa 10, Kiambu 9, Meru 9, Kajiado 8, Kilifi 6, Busia 5, Murang’a 5, Kericho 4, Nakuru 4, Machakos 3, Uasin Gishu 3, Kisii 2, Turkana 2, Garissa, Kakamega, Kitui, Kwale, Laikipia, Makueni and Taita-Taveta 1 case each.
The 127 cases in Nairobi are from Lang’ata (64), Kibra (12), Embakasi West and Kamukunji (6) cases each, Dagoretti North and Westlands (5) cases each, Makadara, Ruaraka and Starehe (4) cases each, Embakasi East, Embakasi North, Embakasi South and Mathare (3) cases each, Embakasi Central (2), Dagoretti South, Kasarani and Roysambu (1) case each.
In Migori, the 19 cases are from Suna East (16), Kuria West, Rongo and Uriri (1) case each. In Mombasa, the 10 cases are from Nyali (4), Mvita (2), Changamwe, Jomvu, Kisauni and Likoni (1) case each.
In Kiambu, the 9 cases are from Lari (4), Kikuyu and Ruiru (2) cases each and Kabete (1). In Meru, all the 9 cases are from Imenti North. In Kajiado, the 8 cases are from Kajiado East and Kajiado North (3) cases each and Kajiado West (2).
In Kilifi, the 6 cases are from Kilifi North (5) and Kaloleni (1). In Busia, the 5 cases are from Teso North (3), Matayos and Teso South (1) case each. In Murang’a the 5 cases are from Kiharu (2) and Kandara, Kigumo and Maragua (1) case each.
In Kericho the 4 cases are from Ainamoi and Belgut with (2) cases each. In Nakuru, the 4 cases are from Nakuru West (2,) Nakuru East and Subukia with (1) case each. In Machakos, all the 3 cases are from Athi River.
In Uasin Gishu all the 3 cases are from Ainabkhoi. In Kisii, all the 2 cases are from Kitutu Chache South.
In Turkana, all the 2 cases are from Turkana West. Garissa’s case is from Garissa Town, the case in Kakamega is from Lurambi, the case in Kitui is from Mwingi Central, the case in Kwale is from Msambweni, the case in Laikipia is from Laikipia West, the case in Makueni is from Makueni and the case in Taita-Taveta is from Taveta.
