Kenyas COVID-19 cases hit 35,969 after 176 more people test positive

Kenya on Saturday confirmed 176 new cases of COVID-19 from 4,115 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 35,969 the number of confirmed positive infections.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, in a statement to the press, said from the cases all are Kenyans except 5 foreigners.

The 176 are made up of 132 males and 44 females; the youngest is a three-month old infant while the oldest is 78 years.

Distribution of the cases by counties is as follows: Nairobi (32), Nakuru (29), Mombasa (22), Kajiado (14), Kisii (9), Kiambu (7), Garissa (6), Nyeri (6), Migori (6), Kisumu (6), Vihiga (6), Uasin Gishu (5), Kwale (5), Meru (5), Narok (3), Kericho (2), Nyandarua (2), Busia (2), Kitui (2), Murang’a (1), Homa Bay (1), Kilifi (1), Laikipia (1), Embu (1), Machakos (1) and Baringo (1).

The 32 cases in Nairobi are from Starehe (9), Dagoretti North, Embakasi East, Kasarani and Westlands (3) cases each, Langata and Roysambu (2) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi North, Embakasi South, Embakasi West, Kamukunji, Kibra and Ruaraka (1) case each.

In Nakuru, the 29 cases are from Naivasha (18), Nakuru East (7) and Nakuru West (4). In Mombasa, the 22 cases are from Kisauni (7), Mvita (5), Jomvu (4), Nyali (3), Changamwe (2) and Likoni (1).

CS Kagwe stated that 329 people also recovered from the disease, 43 of them from the Home-Based Care Program and 286 discharged from various hospitals, taking the total recoveries to 22,771.

Three patients however succumbed to the disease bringing the country’s fatality to 619.
