Kenyas COVID-19 cases rise to 102,792 as 179 people test positive

The Ministry of Health on Saturday announced that 179 people tested positive for COVID-19 out of a sample size of 4,423 tested in the last 24 hours, taking the total confirmed infections to 102,792.

From the cases, 151 are Kenyans while 28 are foreigners; 92 are males while 87 are females and the youngest is a two-month-old infant while the oldest is 93.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, in a statement to newsrooms, also revealed that 79 patients have recovered from the disease; 62 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care while 17 were discharged from various health facilities, taking the total recoveries to 84,952.

CS Kagwe however further noted that one patient succumbed to the coronavirus, pushing the fatalities to 1,795.

The 179 cases were distributed across various counties including; Nairobi 127, Nandi 11, Mombasa 7, Nyeri 6, Kisumu 6, Kiambu 5, Nakuru 5, Busia 2, Kajiado 2, Kilifi 2, Kisii 2, Murang’a 1, Embu 1, Garissa 1 and Uasin Gishu 1.

The 127 cases in Nairobi are from Dagoretti North (19), Westlands (16), Lang’ata (14), Starehe (12), Kibra (10), Embakasi West (8), Kasarani (7), Embakasi East (6), Embakasi Central, Kamukunji, Roysambu and Ruaraka (5) cases each, Dagoretti South, Makadara and Mathare and (4) cases each, Embakasi South (2) and Embakasi North (1).

In Nandi all the 11 cases are from Emgwen. In Mombasa the 7 cases are from Mvita (3), Likoni and Nyali (2) cases each. In Nyeri the 6 cases are from Nyeri Central (5) and Nyeri South (1).

In Kisumu the 6 cases are from Kisumu Central (4) and Kisumu East (2). In Kiambu the 5 cases are from Kikuyu (2), Juja, Kiambu Town and Thika (1) case each.

In Nakuru the 5 cases are from Njoro (2), Gilgil, Naivasha and Nakuru East (1) case each. The 2 cases in Busia are from Matayos and Teso North (1) case each, the 2 cases in Kajiado are all from Kajiado North, the 2 cases in Kilifi are all from Kilifi North and the 2 cases in Kisii are all from Kitutu Chache South.

The case in Murang’a is from Maragua, the case in Embu is from Manyatta, the case in Garissa is from Garissa Town and the case in Uasin Gishu is from Turbo.
