Kenya’s COVID-19 cases rise to 10,791 as 497 test positive, 5 more patients die

Kenya has confirmed 497 more COVID-19 cases raising the number on infections recorded in the country so far to 10,791.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, Ministry of Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Dr. Mercy Mwangangi said the new cases were confirmed following testing of 4,922 samples over the last 24 hours.

At the same time, five more patients have succumbed to the coronavirus disease, pushing the number of fatalities recorded in the country to 202.

Seventy-one more people have also recovered from the virus bringing the total number of recoveries to 3,017.

Of the 497 new cases, 480 are Kenyans and 17 foreigners and they are all aged between 2-81 years.

The cases are distributed as follows: Nairobi (292) followed by Kiambu (62), Kajiado (51), Machakos (30), Mombasa (28), Busia (10), Uasin Gishu (8), Nakuru (5) and Makueni (3).

Narok, Nyeri and Meru have two cases each while Kakamega, Kericho, Kilifi, Laikipia and Nandi Counties have one case each.

In Nairobi, the 292 cases are in; Westlands (39), Langata (35), Dagoretti North (34), Embakasi East (30), Starehe (32), Kasarani (24), Embakasi West (21), Kamukunji (16), Roysambu (13), Mathare (12), Embakasi South (7), Dagoretti South (6), Makadara (4), Dagoretti Central (3), and Embakasi North (1).

In Kiambu the 62 cases are in; Kiambaa (13), Gatundu South (9), Ruiru (7), Thika (6), Githunguri, Lari, Limuru and Kiambaa have (4) cases each while Juja, Kabete, Kikuyu and Gatundu Central have (1) case each.

The 51 cases from Kajiado are distributed as follows; Kajiado East (29), Kajiado Central (5), Kajiado North (11) and Loitokitok (3).

In Machakos, the 30 cases are in; Athi River (29) and Machakos Town (1) while in Mombasa the 28 cases are in; Mvita (14), Jomvu (9), Likoni (2), Changamwe, Kisauni and Nyali have (1) case each.

In Busia, the 10 cases are in Teso North (7) and Matayos (3). In Uasin Gishu, the (8) cases are in Turbo (6), Ainabkoi and Turbo one (1) case each.

Nakuru has (5) cases in Nakuru East (4) and Nakuru West (1). Makueni has (3) cases in Kibwezi West, Narok (2) cases in Narok East and Narok North, Nyeri has (2) cases in Nyeri Central and Meru has (2) cases in Imenti North.

In Kakamega the one (1) is in Lukuyani, Kericho (1) case in Ainamoi, Kilifi (1) in Kilifi North, Laikipia (1) in Laikipia East and Nandi (1) in Chemumei.
