Kenya’s COVID-19 cases rise to 84,169 as 551 more people test positive
The Ministry of Health on Tuesday announced that 551 people tested positive for COVID-19 from a sample size of 4,675 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 84,169 the total number of confirmed infections in the country.
From the cases, 525 are Kenyans while 26 are foreigners; 301 are males and 250 are females while the youngest is a seven-day-old infant and the oldest is 100.
Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Dr. Rashid Aman noted that 266 patients also recovered from the disease – 206 from the Home Based Care Program while 60 were discharged from various hospitals – taking total recoveries to 55,610.
Dr. Aman however stated that 5 more patients succumbed to the disease, bringing the fatality to 1,474.
Distribution of the 551 cases by counties is as follows; Nairobi 212, Kilifi 39, Mombasa 35, Nyeri 33, Embu 30, Nandi 25, Machakos 22, Siaya 21, Kajiado 19, Kiambu 18, Lamu 16, Nyandarua 14, Turkana 11, Uasin Gishu 8, Taita Taveta 7, Kisumu 7, Meru 6, Garissa 6, Kwale 5, Samburu 5, Murang’a 3, Mandera 2, Nakuru 2, Busia 1, Laikipia 1, Kakamega 1, Wajir 1 and Tharaka Nithi 1.
In Nairobi, the 212 cases are from Kibra (62), Lang’ata (32), Westlands (30), Dagoretti North (14), Starehe (9), Embakasi South and Makadara (8) cases each, Embakasi West, Kamukunji and Ruaraka (7) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi Central and Kasarani (5) cases each, Mathare (4) Embakasi East, Embakasi North, and Roysambu (3) cases cases each.
In Kilifi, the 39 cases are from Kaloleni (20), Kilifi north (17) and Malindi (2). In Mombasa, the 35 cases are from Likoni and Mvita (11) cases each, Nyali (6), Kisauni (4) and Jomvu (3).
In Nyeri, all the 33 cases are from Nyeri Central. In Embu, all the 30 cases are from Manyatta. In Nandi, all the 25 cases are from Nandi Hills.
In Machakos, the 22 cases are from Machakos Town (7), Athi River and Yatta (5) cases each, Kangundo (4) and Kathiani (1). In Siaya, the 21 cases are from Alego usonga (13), Ugunja (4), Gem and Rarieda (2) cases each.
In Kajiado, the 19 cases are from Kajiado North (11) and Kajiado East (8). In Kiambu, the 18 cases are from Lari (5), Kiambu Town (4), Thika (3), Juja and Ruiru (2) cases each, Kiambaa and Kabete (1) case each. In Lamu, the 16 cases are from Lamu West (10) and Lamu East (6).
In Nyandarua, the 14 cases are from Kinangop (9) and Ndaragwa (5). In Turkana, all the 11 cases are from Turkana West. In Uasin Gishu, the 8 cases are from Ainabkoi (7) and Moiben (1).
In Taita Taveta, the 7 cases are from Voi (5), Mwatate and Taveta (1) case each, while in Kisumu, the 7 cases are from Kisumu Central (5), Kisumu West and Nyando (1) case each.
In Meru, the 6 cases are from Imenti South (4), Igembe South and Tigania East (1) case each. In Garissa, all the 6 cases are from Dadaab. In Kwale, all the 5 cases are from Msambweni, while in Samburu, all the 5 cases are from Samburu Central.
In Murang’a, the 3 cases are from Kangema (2) and Gatanga (1). In Mandera, all the 2 cases are from Mandera East, while the 2 cases in Nakuru are from Nakuru East and Rongai (1) case each.
The case in Busia is from Bunyala, the case in Laikipia, is from Laikipia East, the case in Kakamega, is from Navakholo, the case in Wajir, is from Wajir East, and the case in Tharaka Nithi, is from Chuka.
