Kenyas COVID-19 cases rise to 97,954 as 221 people test positive

The Ministry of Education on Friday announced that 221 people tested positive for COVID-19 from a sample size of 6,190 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 97,954 the number of confirmed infections in the country.

From the cases, 201 are Kenyans while 20 are foreigners; 156 are males and 65 are females while the youngest is a four-year-old child while the oldest is 85.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, in a statement to newsrooms, also revealed that 365 patients recovered from the coronavirus – 354 being from the Home Based Care Program, while 11 were discharged from various hospitals – taking the total recoveries to 80,671.

CS Kagwe however noted that one patient succumbed to the disease, pushing the cumulative fatalities to 1,703.

Distribution of the cases by counties is as follows: Nairobi 81, Meru 35, Isiolo 22, Mombasa 16, Kisumu 10, Kitui 9, Nakuru 7, Busia 6, Kisii 6, Lamu 5, Machakos 5, Kajiado 4, Laikipia 3, Uasin Gishu 2, Kilifi 2, Kiambu 1, Nyandarua 1, Garissa 1, Trans Nzoia 1, Mandera 1, Bungoma 1, Vihiga 1 and Murang’a 1.

In Nairobi, the 81 cases are from Kibra (14), Westlands (9), Dagoretti North (8), Embakasi West and Lang’ata (7) cases each, Embakasi East (6), Mathare (5), Embakasi Central and Starehe (4) cases each, Makadara, Ruaraka and Roysambu (3) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi South and Kasarani (2) cases each, Embakasi North and Kamukunji (1) case each.

In Meru, all the 35 cases are from Igembe Central. In Isiolo, all the 22 cases are from Isiolo Town. In Mombasa, the 16 cases are from Mvita (4), Changamwe and Jomvu (3) cases each, Kisauni, Likoni and Nyali (2) cases each.

In Kisumu, the 10 cases are from Kisumu Central (4), Kisumu West (3), Muhoroni (2) and Kisumu East (1). In Kitui, the 9 cases are from Kitui Central (8) and Mwingi Central (1).

In Nakuru, the 7 cases are from Nakuru West (5) and Njoro (2). In Busia, the 6 cases are from Matayos (4) and Teso North (2). In Kisii, all the 6 cases are from Kitutu Chache South.

In Lamu, all the 5 cases are from Lamu West. In Machakos, the 5 cases are from Kangundo (3), Athi River and Machakos Town (1) case each. In Kajiado, the 4 cases are from Kajiado North (3) and Kajiado Central (1).

In Laikipia, all the 3 cases are from Laikipia West. In Uasin Gishu, the 2 cases are from Kesses and Moiben (1) case each, while in Kilifi, all the 2 cases are from Kilifi South.

The case in Kiambu, is from Ruiru, the case in Nyandarua, is from Kinangop, the case in Garissa, is from Dadaab, the case in Trans Nzoia, is from Cherangany, the case in Mandera, is from Mandera East, the case in Bungoma, is from Kanduyi, the case in Vihiga, is from Vihiga and the case in Murang’a, is from Kiharu.
