The number of Covid-19 infections in the country has risen to 1,348 after 62 more positive cases were announced on Tuesday.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman, addressing the press at Afya House, said 2,293 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours.

The new cases, as stated by the CAS, are composed of 59 Kenyans and 3 foreign nationals; collectively made up by 45 males and 17 females, all aged between 6-64 years.

The infections are distributed in various counties across the country namely; Nairobi (23), Mombasa (16), Kwale (8), Kiambu (6), Kajiado (6), and Kitui (3).

In Nairobi, the cases were recorded in Umoja (6), Kibra (6), Eastleigh (3), Dagoretti North (2), Lang’ata (2), Westlands (2), Starehe (1), Embakasi East (1).

Mombasa’s coronavirus cases were confirmed in Changamwe (9), Jomvu (3), Nyali (3), Mvita (1) while in Kwale; Msambweni (4), Lungalunga (4), and Kiambu; Lari (5), Ruiru (1).

Kitui’s cases were all from Miambani and Kajiado’s infections recorded in Kajiado Central sub-location.

Dr. Aman further expressed gratitude healthcare workers for their efforts noting that 3 more patients were discharged in the last 24 hours, hence taking the total number of recoveries to 405.

He also expressed concern at a growing number of Covid-19 patients providing the government with wrong information hence making the process of contact tracing difficult and, in turn, contributing to the spread of the disease.

“We have noted a disturbing behavior, and a dangerous one at that, pertaining to persons giving false contacts during targeted testing. It is important to provide accurate information, because it is only through this that contact tracing is possible,” said Dr. Aman.

“Providing wrong information means that such individuals are continuing to spread the virus to their loved ones, friends and community.”
