Kenyas COVID-19 positivity rate at 10.1pc after 646 new cases recorded

Kenya’s total COVID-19 infections rose by 646 to hit a cumulative total of 181,885 cases, the Ministry of Health said in a statement on Friday.

The new infections, tested from a sample size of 6,429 represent a 10.1 percent positivity rate and push the total of samples tested to date to 1,933,402.

“From the cases, 626 are Kenyans while 20 are foreigners. 351 are males and 295 females.” The Ministry said on Friday, “The youngest is a seven-month-old baby, while the oldest is 92 years.”

Nairobi recorded the highest number of infections with 115 cases, while Siaya came second with 83 and Kisumu with 67.

Across the country, there are 1,017 patients currently admitted in various health facilities; 6,653 others are enrolled in the Home Based Isolation and Care program.

Meanwhile, 102 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 33 of whom are on ventilatory support and 52 on supplemental oxygen.

28 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 119 of them in general wards and 9 in High Dependency Units (HDU.

Another 17 patients are being monitored.

In the rest of the counties, the new infections are distributed as follows: Mombasa 55, Busia 46, Uasin Gishu 34, Nakuru 32, Kakamega 31, Kisii 29, Vihiga 17, Kericho 16, Kiambu 16, Meru 14, Machakos 14, Homa Bay 13, Nandi 8, Bungoma 7, Trans Nzoia 7, Kilifi 7, Kajiado 6, Turkana 4, Murang’a 3, Kwale 3, Nyeri 3, Garissa 2, Laikipia 2, Narok 2, Nyandarua 2, Kitui 2, Wajir 1, West Pokot 1, Baringo 1, Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Marsabit 1 and Migori 1.

In the meantime, the total number of recoveries has hit 123,853 after 391 new recoveries were announced on Friday.

“211 recoveries are from the Home Based and Isolation Care program, while 180 are from various health facilities countrywide.” The Ministry of Health said “Total recoveries now stand at 123,853 of whom 89,661 are from Home Based Care and Isolation program, while 34,192 are from various health facilities countrywide.”

At the same, Kenya’s death toll from COVID-19 has hit 3,556 following 18 new deaths reported in the last one day.

According to the Health Ministry, one of the deaths occurred in the last 24 hours, while 17 are late death reports discovered after facility record audit conducted between May and June.

The new deaths are distributed by age as follows: 0-9 years (0), 10-19 years (0), 20-29 (0), 30-39 years (2), 40-49 years (2), 50-59 years (4), 60 years and above (10).
