Kenyas COVID-19 positivity rate at 10.6pc, 1,934 new recoveries recorded

The Ministry of Health has confirmed 566 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the country, pushing the total of confirmed positive cases to 187,525.

The new infections, tested from a sample size of 5,344 had a positivity rate of 10.6 percent and push the total number of samples tested so far to 2,001,786.

“From the cases 546 are Kenyans while 20 are foreigners; 318 are males and 248 females,” the Ministry of Health said on Thursday. “The youngest is an 11-month-old infant while the oldest is 97 years.”

Across the country, 1,136 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities while 4,825 patients are under Home Based Isolation and Care program.

116 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 30 of whom are on ventilatory support and 57 on supplemental oxygen.

29 patients are under observation. 6 Another 185 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 159 of them in general wards and 26 in High Dependency Units (HDU)

Across the country, the new infections are spread out as follows: Nairobi 200, Kericho 64, Mombasa 37, Kiambu 31, Uasin Gishu 30, Siaya 26, Nakuru 24, 2 Busia 24, Kilifi 22, Nyamira 12, Vihiga 12, Nandi 11, Kisumu 10, Nyeri 9, Homa Bay 7, Garissa 5, Machakos 5, Baringo 4, Bungoma 4, Kirinyaga, Meru, Kwale and Narok 3 cases each, Bomet, Kajiado, Kakamega, Migori, Murang’a and Trans Nzoia 2 cases each, Turkana, Laikipia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Embu and Nyandarua 1 case each.

Meanwhile, Kenya’s total recoveries have hit 176,456 after 1,934 patients recovered in the last 24 hours.

“1,693 are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care, while 241 are various health facilities,” the Health Ministry added “Total recoveries now stand at 176,456 out of which 140,586 are from Home Based Care and Isolation program, while 35,870 are from various health facilities.”

At the same time, Kenya’s total coronavirus deathtoll hit 3,716 after 11 new deaths were recorded.

According to the statement from the Ministry of Health, one of the deaths occured in the last 24 hours while, 10 are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in the months of March, June and July 2021.
