Kenyas COVID-19 positivity rate at 5.2% after 345 new cases recorded, 24 deaths

Kenya has recorded 345 new COVID-19 cases from a sample size of 6,686 tested in the last 24 hours marking a positivity rate of 5.2%.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry said the new cases include 339 Kenyans while 6 are foreigners. This now brings the countries cumulative cases to 160,904.

The ministry also announced that 24 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, with one having occurred in the last 24 hours, 15 on diverse dates within the last one month and 8 are late death reports from facility record audits. This now pushes total fatalities to 2,805.

The 345 new cases are distributed across the counties as follows: Nairobi 75, Uasin Gishu 49, Mombasa 35, Kisumu 29, Kitui 26, Kilifi 16, Meru and Embu 13 cases each, Machakos 9, Nakuru 10, Nyamira and Trans Nzoia 9 cases each, Kericho 6, Laikipia 5, Kiambu, Nandi and Siaya 4 cases each, Noma Bay, Kajiado, Kakamega, Murang’a and Nyandarua 3 cases each, Nyeri, Tharaka Nithi, Vihiga and West Pokot 2 cases each, Bomet, Bungoma, Kirinyaga, Kish, Makueni and Migori 1 case each.

Meanwhile, 140 patients are reported to have recovered from the disease, 82 from Home Based and Isolation Care, while 58 are from various health
facilities countrywide. Total recoveries now stand at 109,217 out of which 79,525 are from Home Based Care and Isolation while 29,692 are from various health facilities.

According to the Ministry, a total of 1,230 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,654 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

“There are 154 are in the Intensive Care Unit, 26 of whom are on ventilatory support and 101 on supplemental oxygen. 27 patients are on observation.
Another 117 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 109 of them in general wards and 8 in High Dependency Units (HDU),” said the Ministry.

A total of 894,076 persons have so far been vaccinated against the COVID-19 disease countrywide.

“Of these 275,453 are aged 58 years and above, Health workers, 158,772, Teachers 139,221, Security Officers 75,169 and Others 245,461,” added the Health Ministry.
