Kenyas COVID-19 positivity rate at 7.2pc, 403 new cases recorded

The Ministry of Health has announced 403 new COVID-19 infections, and a positivity rate of 7.2 percent after testing 5,577 samples in the last 24 hours.

The cumulative total of positive cases recorded in the country has now hit 175,176 while the cumulative tests conducted so far is 1,864,020.

399 of the new infections are Kenyans while 4 are foreigners; 215 are male while 188 are female.

The youngest patient is a one-year-old child, while the oldest is 97 years old.

A total of 957 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,796 patients are under Home Based Isolation and Care program.

163 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 30 of whom are on ventilatory support and 113 on supplemental oxygen. 20 patients are under observation.

Another 105 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen, with 100 of them in general wards and 5 in High Dependency Unit (HDU).

The distribution of positive cases by age is as follows: 0-9 years (15), 10-19 years (15), 20-29 years (68), 30-39 (98) 40-49 (70) 50- 59 (68) 60 years and above (69).

The new infections are spread across the country as follows: In terms of County distribution; Nairobi 47, Kisii 34, Kericho 33, Nyeri 31, Siaya 31, Kisumu 29, Mombasa 27, Nakuru 22, Homa Bay 21, Migori 18, Nyamira 17, Bomet 15, Busia 13, Kakamega 8, Baringo 7, Trans Nzoia 6, Uasin Gishu 6, Kiambu 5, Vihiga 5, Bungoma 4, Kirinyaga 4, Murang’a 2, Embu 2, Narok 2, West Pokot 2, Kajiado 2, Kilifi 2, Laikipia 2, Machakos 1, Meru 1, Nandi 1, Garissa 1, Kitui 1 and Kwale 1.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health reported that 442 patients had recovered from the disease, with 24 from various health facilities across the country and 418 from Home Based Care and Isolation Programme.

The total number of recoveries is now 120,031, with 87,288from Home Based Care and Isolation and 32,473 from other health facilities.

Meanwhile, 18 new deaths have been reported; one in the last 24 hours while 17 are late death reports discovered after facility record audits

The new deaths brings the total number of deaths from the disease to 3,378.

The distribution of new deaths by age is as follows: 0-9 years (0), 10-19 years (0), 20-29 (1), 30-39 years (1), 40-49 years (2), 50-59 years (4), 60 years and above (10).
