Kenyas COVID-19 positivity rate at 8.5pc, 218 new cases recorded

Kenya’s total COVID-19 cases have hit 179,773 following 218 new infections tested from 2,577 samples announced by the Health Ministry on Friday.

So far, Kenya has tested 1,907,096 samples since the pandemic was reported.

The new infections represent a positivity rate of 8.5 per cent.

There are 206 Kenyans among the new infections and12 foreigners; 117 are male while 101 are females.

The youngest patient is a seven-month-old infant, while the oldest is 85 years old.

There are currently 1,074 patients in various health facilities across the country, with 5,638 patients under the Home Based Isolation and Care program.

The County distribution of the new infections is as follows: Nairobi 119, Siaya 26, Kisii 20, Uasin Gishu 15, Homa Bay 10, Nakuru 6, Kajiado 4, Kakamega 4,Makueni 2, Nyandarua 2, Migori 1, Mombasa 1, Nandi 1, Vihiga 1, Bomet 1, Kericho 1, Kiambu 1, Kisumu 1, Laikipia 1 and Machakos 1.

The distribution of positive cases by age is as follows; 0-9 years (9), 10-19 years (8), 20-29 years (31), 30-39 (60) 40-49 (55) 50-59 (21) 60 years and above (34).

At the same time, the Ministry of Health reported that 343 patients had recovered from the disease, with 69 from various health facilities across the country and 274 from Home Based Care and Isolation Programme.

The total number of recoveries is now 119,589, with 86,870 from Home Based Care and Isolation and 31,992 from other health facilities.

Meanwhile, 5 new deaths have been reported; one in the last 24 hours and four on diverse dates between April and June.

The new fatalities bring the total number of deaths from the disease to 3,461.

The distribution of new deaths by age is as follows; 0-9 years (0), 10-19 years (0), 20-29 (1), 30-39 years (0), 40-49 years (1), 50-59 years (1), 60 years and above (2).

While the distribution of cumulative deaths by age is as follows; 0-9 years (55), 10-19 years (24), 20- 29 (112), 30-39 years (287), 40-49 years (421), 50-59 years (705), 60 years and above (1,857)
