Kenyas COVID-19 positivity rate at 8.0pc, 124 more recoveries

Kenya’s COVID-19 positivity rate was 8.0 percent on Thursday, from the 334 new infections tested from 4,155 samples in the previous day.

In a statement to the Press on Thursday, the Ministry of Health said the youngest patient is a 28-day-old infant while the oldest is 104-years-old.

Distribution of positive cases by age is as follows; 0-9 years (15), 10-19 years (17), 20-29 years (59), 30-39 years (83), 40-49 years (56), 50-59 years (44), 60 and above (60).

329 Kenyans and 5 fire foreigners make up the new cases which further comprise 206 males and 128 females.

The new infections bring to 164,720, the total number of confirmed cases in the country, and 1,733, 500, the total number of samples tested so far.

A total of 1,021 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,840 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

117 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 23 of whom are on ventilatory support.

Across the counties, the new infections are spread out as follows: Nairobi 81, Meru 39, Kisumu 37, Lusia 24, Nakuru 16, Siaya, Mombasa and Kilifi 11 cases each, Kiambu and Homa Bay 10 cases each, Kitui 9, Uasin Gishu and Makueni 8 cases each, Bomet, Embu and Kajiado 7 cases each, Nyeri 6, Kericho 5, Kakamega, Migori and Nandi 4 cases each, Garissa, Kisii and Kirinyaga 2 cases each, Kwale, Laikipia, Lamu, Murang’a, Taita Taveta, Tharaka Nithi, West Pokot, Bungoma and Isiolo 1 case each.

Meanwhile, 124 patients have recovered from the disease; 85 from the Home Based Care and Isolation program and 39 from various health facilities across the country.

18 deaths were also reported in the last 24 hours; 15 on diverse dates within the last one month and 3 are late death reports from facility record audits. This pushes the cumulative fatalities to 2,950.
