Kenya’s COVID-19 positivity rate at 9.5pc,719 new infections announced

The total of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in the country have hit 183,603 cases, after the Ministry of Health announced 719 new infections on Monday.

The new cases, tested from a sample size of 7,608 have a positivity rate of 9.5 percent and push the total of cumulative tests conducted so far to 1,953,344.

“From the cases 666 are Kenyans while 53 are foreigners; 435 are males and 284 females,” the Ministry of Health said on Tuesday “The youngest is a one-year-old infant while the oldest is 93 years.”

Across the country, the new cases are spread out as follows: Nairobi 188, Busia 76, Kisii 57, Siaya 53, Kisumu 38, Kilifi 38, Uasin Gishu 29, Kakamega 26, Nakuru 23, Vihiga 22, Mombasa 17, Bungoma 16, Homa Bay 15, Machakos 14, Kericho 13, Turkana 13, Nandi 11, Kiambu 11,Laikipia 10, Taita Taveta 7, Embu 6, Kajiado 6, Nyamira 5, Kwale 4, Makueni 4, Trans Nzoia 3, Nyeri 2, Kirinyaga 2, Kitui 2, Migori 2, Narok 1, Nyandarua 1, Garissa 1, Isiolo 1, Meru 1 and Bomet 1.

The positivive cases are distributed by age as follows: 0-9 years (25), 10-19 years (51), 20-29 years (127), 30-39 (190) 40-49 (106) 50-59 (101) 60 years and above (119).

A total of 1,088 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,465 patients are under Home Based Isolation and Care program.

“112 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 35 of whom are on ventilatory support and 47 on supplemental oxygen,” the statement from the Health Ministry reads “30 patients are under observation. Another 129 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 112 of them in general wards and 17 in High Dependency Units (HDU).”

Meanwhile, 800 patients have recovered from the diesease; 695 from the Home Based and Isolation Care program while 105 are from various health facilities countrywide.

At the same time, the country’s death toll has hit 3,61 after 9 new deaths were recorded.

According to the Health Ministry, all the deaths were late death reports discovered after facility record audits on diverse dates in the months of October and December 2020, April and June 2021
