Kenyatta Apologizes To Victims of Historical Injustices

President Kenyatta, while addressing the joint special sitting of the National assembly and the Senate during the State of the Nation address, said that it was his duty as the Head of State to apologize to the nation and the victims of injustices from different parts of the country.

“I stand before you today on my own behalf, that of my government and all past governments, to offer the sincere apology of the Government of the Republic of Kenya to all our compatriots for all past wrongs,” said Kenyatta.

POST POLL CHAOS

“I seek your forgiveness and may God give us the Grace to draw on the lessons of this history to unite as a people and, together embrace our future as one people and one nation,” he added.

He said that historical injustices against different communities during the 2007/08 post poll chaos that left at least 1,300 people dead, the Wagalla Massacre that left hundreds dead among other forms of injustices must be condemned and addressed without any further delays.

“In moving forward to complete the noble work of building our nation, we are reminded of the fundamental principles upon which our prosperity will be built. Our national anthem calls us to reflect on the power of peace; to recall the supreme value of freedom; to believe, once more, in the beauty of service and brotherhood; to aspire each day to the dignity that results from hard work, and to contend for the hope that justice brings.”
