Kenyatta launches Kenya’s international brand in Italy

President Uhuru Kenyatta has launched Kenya’s new international brand at the Milan Expo 2015, a rare opportunity to market the country at the international arena.

The seven-day event and celebration started with President Kenyatta’s toured various stands with cultural troupes belting Kenyan music.

The President said the exposition accorded Kenya a chance to showcase emerging investment opportunities in various fields as well as entrenching the country’s position as a preferred tourist destination.

“We look forward to leveraging this year’s Expo to attract more concrete forms of cooperation with Italian economic operators,” President Kenyatta said.

President Kenyatta assured that Kenya is a hospitable country that is unique in many ways. He said the presence of a large number of Italian companies in Kenya, especially in the tourism sector, was a testimony of the country’s position as a suitable investment destination.

He said the expo – which brings together over 150 countries and more than 20 million people globally – enabled sharing of experiences among participating countries, particularly in dealing with the challenges related to food security.

“This exposition accords each and all participating countries an opportunity to show-case how they are contributing to the global issues that gravitate on food security in a sustainable manner,” President Kenyatta said.

“We believe that participation in this important event should help us focus our priorities on food production and improve quality of life of our people.”

Kenya’s theme for the Expo is “Kenya: The Land of Unlimited Possibilities.” It is derived from the overall theme of the Expo “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”.

The Head of State pointed out that Kenya identifies with the aspirations of the Expo as food security forms part of the country’s higher national goals.

“Our quest for food sufficiency and contribution towards global sustainability is even stronger,” the Head of State said.

President Kenyatta said the fact that the Expo is taking place in Italy – a citadel of inventions and innovations – served as a pointer towards global reawakening.

President Kenyatta said Kenya is also aligning her policies to make it a middle-income country that is prosperous and globally competitive by 2030.

“Protection of and incentives for both foreign and local investment and trade are prioritized and form part of the policy,” President Kenyatta said.

Speaking at the event, Italian Minister of Justice Andrea Orlando said he was pleased that Kenya is opening up its space for more Italian companies.

He said Kenya’s participation at the Expo would not only enhance its cooperation with Italy but also propel it to more mutually beneficial engagements with other countries in the world.
