Kenyatta orders for review of curfew in Northern Kenya during Ramadhan

President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed security agencies to review the current curfew imposed in Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Lamu and Tana River counties.

The President said this will ensure Muslims celebrate the Holy month of Ramadhan without any impediment.

”As a religious nation, faith remains a central pillar in the life of our nation. Religious institutions play an indispensable role in fostering the essential values of tolerance, love, unity, compassion, charity, integrity and service. This function is critical at this time when we are faced with threats against our cohesive identity as Kenya,” said President Kenyatta.

The Head of State has further instructed Interior Cabinet Secretary Major (Rtd) Joseph Nkaissery and his team to enhance security throughout the country during this Holy month.

“I have asked him to make all necessary arrangements to ensure that our Muslim brothers and sisters fulfil their religious obligations without any impediment.”

“In the same light, and aware that the enemies of our country may wish to exploit this season, I call upon the entire Muslim fraternity and its leadership to remain vigilant, and do everything in their power, to cooperate fully with the security agencies in order to safeguard this Holy Month,” he added.

Muslims observe the Ramadhan immediately after the sighting of the new moon following the culmination of the month of Shaban in the lunar-based Hijrah calendar.

During the Ramadhan, Muslims are to focus on reparation for wrongdoings and good deeds. It is also the most ideal time for them to rebuild community, organizational, and family ties severed by misunderstandings.
