Kenyatta says govt to protect basic Kenyans rights

President Uhuru Kenyatta has called on the Muslim community in the country to support the government in its efforts to protect basic rights of all Kenyans including freedom of worship.

Kenyatta who was speaking in Lamu town when he joined Muslim faithful for Maulid prayer promised Lamu residents that the government will fast track implementation of various projects planned in the region.

Local leaders also pledged to support Jubilee during the 2017 General Elections.

A few days before Christmas, a group of brave Kenyan Muslims shielded their fellow Christian passengers from suspected Al Shabaab extremists during a bus ambush near El Wak, Mandera County.

Witnesses said about nine gunmen stopped a Nairobi bound bus and ordered the passengers to split into two groups of Muslims and Christians but instead faced opposition from the Muslims who called on them to kill everyone instead of isolating the christians.

It is believed that the gunmen were members of the Al Shabaab militant group which has launched sporadic attacks on vehicles plying the route as the war on terror continues in Somalia.

The bus was part of the Makkah fleet of buses, another one of which came under attack from bandits last November where 28 people died after gunmen separated Christians from Muslims and shot dead the Christians.

The Office of the Inspector General (IG) has since released a list of four prime suspects believed to be behind the December 21st Mandera bus attack.

In a circular distributed to newsrooms, the IG’s office revealed that the names of the four terror suspects are Mohamed Osman Ailow alias Issack Okola, Abdullahi Dimbil, Mohamed Ahmed Farah and Abukar Mohamed Yunis.
