Kenyatta warns NASA against intimidation, asks opposition to respect law

President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned the opposition NASA coalition to use constitutional means to air their grievances, saying his government will not succumb to intimidation.

Speaking while addressing mourners during the funeral of late Governor Wahome Gakuru at Kirichu in Nyeri Town Constituency, the President in reference to Friday’s chaotic scenes in Nairobi cautioned that the government won’t allow anyone to break the law.

“We will not allow a few people to destroy our country. We have a Constitution and we are a nation that is governed by rules and laws and we must all abide by it, and asking people to respect that is not going overboard. We shall demand that we must continue to be a nation that is guided by a Constitution and lives by the rule of law,” said President Kenyatta.

“The people who think they can use to intimidation, chaos and violence to further their political agenda, we want to tell them they will not succeed, they will fail and fail miserably,” said President Kenyatta’s deputy, William Ruto.

“We will never succumb to intimidation or violence or blackmail!” he added.

The President hailed the late Gakuru as a visionary leader and promised to offer his full support to the family of the late governor and the Nyeri County governor to fulfill the late governor’s development plan.

Gakuru was laid to rest at his Kirichu home in Nyeri County.
