Kericho: Brother kills pregnant sister in fight over land

Shock and grief engulfed Bartera village in Kericho after a 25-year-old man killed his pregnant sister following a land dispute.

Borowet location chief Geoffrey Chirchir confirmed the incident saying the man identified as Amos Cheruiyot killed Caroline Chepkorir.

Caroline who was three months pregnant was injured while trying to stop a fight between her brother and her uncle who were fighting over a parcel of land.

The area chief says the suspect arrived home while drunk and armed himself with a panga before proceeding to wake his uncle who he was accusing of looking down on their mother.

Adding that after the uncle woke up, an altercation ensued and quickly turned into a vicious fist fight.

The deceased attempted to separate the two but accidentally the panga which the brother was armed with cut her on the thigh as he attempted to hack his uncle. .

She sustained a deep wound and was pronounced dead upon her arrival at the hospital where she had been rushed by her neighbours.

The body was transferred to St Vincent Hospital Mortuary in Muhoroni.

The suspect who was later arrested and taken to Kipkelion police station is awaiting his arraignment in court.
