Kericho Governor Chepkwony urges Govt to increase DP Rutos security

Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony has now appealed to the government to increase Deputy President William Ruto’s security following the murder of Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei.

Speaking on Sunday in Konoin, Bomet, Governor Chepkwony said the current political situation in the country is not safe for the DP “especially considering his firm stand on how the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) forums are being conducted.”

“When your security person is killed, what else will follow? What was the real intention of eliminating someone who is just assigned to perform his duties?” Posed the Kericho County boss.

He further added that: “I also have a security person, but if he is killed then I’m the real target.”

This comes after DP Ruto previously revealed that he was aware of a plan to scuttle his 2022 presidential bid, adding that only death can stop him from the quest.

Speaking on Saturday during the burial of the late Kenei – an Administration Police officer attached to his Harambee House Annex office – the DP said that if the deceased’s killers were out to intimidate him, he was more than ready.

A visibly enraged Ruto also alleged that some officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have been heard saying that he will not be on the ballot come 2022.

“Pengine waniue mimi, lakini sitarudi nyuma, I know there is a plot but I want to tell them that I will not back down, I will not be intimidated,” he said.

He also accused DCI George Kinoti of waging a political war against him, further urging him to focus on police work and not politics.

“Nataka kwambia DCI awachane na siasa, focus on police work and getting to the bottom of who killed the officer Kenei,” he stated.
