PHOTOS: Kericho, Malindi by-elections register impressive voter turnout

Voting in the Kericho Senatorial and Malindi Parliamentary seats kicked off 6:00AM with most polling stations registering high number of voters in what has been seen as the country’s most competitive and defining by elections.

In Kericho, at least 1,300 police officers have been deployed to ensure security during and after the polling.

623 political party agents and observers will also be manning the process to ascertain the credibility of the poll. There are 290,947 registered voters in Kericho County.

The top two contenders are Jubilee Party’s Aaron Cheruiyot and KANU’s Paul Sang.

Cheruiyot cast his ballot at Kapmaso Primary School polling station in Belgut while Sang voted at Kamanamsin Primary School polling station in Bureti.

Meanwhile, voters in Malindi Constituency, Kilifi County have expressed optimism that the by election will be free and fair.

Voting started a few minutes past 6AM.

There are 100 polling stations across Malindi with 55,800 registered voters.

The Malindi race is seen as a two-horse race pitting the ruling coalition’s Philip Charo and ODM’s Willy Mtengo.

Mtengo voted at the Msabaha polling station while Charo cast his ballot at the Ganda police station.

Both by-elections have a notably impressive voter turnout.
