Kericho man hacks wife to death

A sombre mood engulfed Kamelilo and Poywek villages in Ainamoi Sub County after a 26-year-old man hacked his 21-year-old wife to death over what was suspected to be a family dispute.

Poywek location chief, Joseph Sitienei, said the man identified as Geoffrey Chirchir hacked his wife, identified as Diana Chepkorir, to death using a panga.

Chief Sitienei said that the woman had separated with the man and had gone to stay with her sister in Eldoret and she recently returned home to clear with her former school, Poywek High School, which is in the area.

The administrator said that the man is believed to have been angered by the ‘investment’ he had made on his wife when they were still together.

Sitienei added that the duo had on earlier occasion been seen together for hours, with residents believing that the two were trying to sort out their differences.

The two went to Kericho town together and after returning, the lady proceeded to her former school and the man was said to have instructed her to pass through their home, which the deceased was said to have obliged.

“The deceased was engaged with the man but had gone to stay with her sister at Eldoret. She came back just the other day for her KCSE certificate and on the fateful day,” said chief Sitienei.

The administrator revealed that the man was furious after the deceased failed to pass through their home as earlier agreed.

This, he says, led to the act that left the woman dead after the man attacked her with a panga.

The incident was reported at Kericho Police Station by the neighbours who heard screams but the man had already gone into the hiding.

The body of the deceased was removed to Kericho District Hospital Mortuary while the man later surrendered himself to Ainamoi Police Station.
