KCPE candidate names newborn baby after Education CS Amina Mohamed

A 15-year-old girl from Kericho County on Tuesday gave birth shortly before beginning her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination and has named her newborn baby after Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed.

Sarah Nekesa, a pupil at St. Patrick’s Primary school on the outskirts of Kericho town, will now sit her examination at Kericho Nursing Home where she was rushed after going into labour on Monday night.

Speaking to the press from her hospital bed, Nekesa exuded confidence that she will still perform well in the examination and proceed to secondary school.

She said she did not imagine that her due date would come so early since health personnel at her previous clinic had informed her that she was due on November 15.

Kericho sub-county Education Officer Moses Okeya said arrangements had been put in place to allow Nekesa complete her examination at the hospital without any hitches.

Meanwhile, KCPE examinations kicked off in all the 694 education centers in the county without any irregularities being reported on the first day.

Kericho County Commissioner Muktar Abdi said enough security measures had been put in place to ensure the exercise goes on smoothly.
