Key witness in trial of Mavoko three testifies

A key witness in the murder trial of lawyer Willy Kimani and two others has testified in camera in a case where four police officers and a police informer have been linked to the killings.

According to the prosecution, the witness, who is under the Witness Protection Programme, has crucial evidence against the five accused.

Earlier during cross examination, a lawyer who represented Josephat Mwenda told the court that they wrote to Inspector of General of Police, Joseph Boinett, and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) explaining how Frederick Leliman, a police officer, had threatened to kill their client – Josphat Mwenda.

Lawyer Edward Mbaya testified that an OCS attached at Mlolongo Police Station had asked Mwenda to withdraw a complaint made against his junior – Leliman with IPOA failure to which he would kill him and dump his body.

The OCS, Moses Wambogo, is now deceased.

The court further heard that the complaint was not made at the said police station because Mwenda felt threatened and that’s what prompted him to report to IPOA and IG.

On Thursday, the prosecution gave a chilling narration. On how the three persons met their death saying that the will prove go the court that the five had a motive to eliminate lawyer Willy Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri.

The prosecution further alleged that Fredick ole Leliman played a key role in the execution of the three.

The prosecution has lined up at least 60 witnesses to testify against the five.
