Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale has rubbished reports by a local newspaper that he announced the leader of the Ford Kenya/ANC merger party.

The Senator said the decision lies with party leaders and he does not have the authority to do so.

“May all our members ignore, with full contempt, the fake news in today’s @dailynation that I’ve announced the leader of the FORD Kenya/ANC merger party,” he said on Twitter on Tuesday.

He added that the party leaders Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi are the only ones who have the final say and not him.

There had been reports that members of the two parties differed over the alleged proposal to merge before the 2022 elections and who should be their leader.

Mr. Wetangula and Mr. Mudavadi apparently cut ties with Opposition leader Raila Odinga after they failed to appear for the controversial swearing in at Uhuru Park.

His Ford Kenya party and Mr. Musalia’s Amani National Congress (ANC) party had been part of Raila’s National Super Alliance (NASA).

Mr. Wetangula would later be ousted as Senate Majority leader after members of the Orange Democratic Movement votes him out.
