Khalwale ousted as Senate Public Accounts Committee chair

Nyamira Senator Okong’o Mongare is the new chair of the Senate Public Accounts and Investments Committee.

Mongare has replaced Kakamega Senator Dr. Bonny Khalwale in the changes done by the committee members who also elected West Pokot Senator John Lonyangapuo as the Vice Chair.

Lonyangapuo replaces Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar.

The changes in the counties oversight committee were reportedly done after internal wrangles.

Khalwale was ousted after he garnering three votes against Mongare’s six during the committee’s reconstitution.

The committee that oversees how the 47 counties use allocated funds and audit their investments, elects leaders when Parliament resumes.

The committee is mandated with examining reports by the Auditor General on the annual account of county governments and any other reports from the concerning county funds and investments.

After the vote, Khalwale said that he was ready to work with the new officials.
