Khan: Withdraw Kenyan Cases at ICC

Khan says that he wants all prosecution witnesses who had allegedly been bribed to give false testimony in the case to testify before the judges instead of withdrawing their testimony.

The lawyer has also denied claims that the defence team was involved in weakening the Kenyan cases at the ICC.

Speaking this afternoon at a news conference in Nairobi, Khan asked the ICC judges to take action against prosecution witnesses who have lied before the Hague based court.

Khan has also asked the ICC to terminate the Kenyan cases at the ICC after former ICC Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo revealed that he was pushed by envoys to block President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto from vying in the last general election.

His comments come a day after the Jubilee Parliamentary Group that met on Monday said Ocampo’s remarks had affirmed their position that the Kenyatta-Ruto trials were politically instigated.

The parliamentary group also resolved to push for the passage of a motion, to form a 21-member select committee to probe the role played by foreign embassies and nongovernmental organizations in the Kenyan post election violence cases.

Sources say the motion by Jubilee could be moved as early as next week.

The group also wants the government, as a signatory to the Rome Statute to push for the probing of former ICC Prosecutor Louis Moreno Ocampo over alleged abuse of office as well as not carrying out any investigations into the violence.
