Kiambu County driver hospitalized after night of terror

A driver working with the County Government of Kiambu is nursing injuries after thugs attacked him Sunday night while on his way home.

The man, identified as Geoffrey Muhia, said that the thugs robbed him of Ksh 1,500 and a mobile phone before attacking him with a sword.

He say that he had recorded a statement at Kiambu Police Station a few days ago claiming that his life was in danger.

“Four men ambushed me at around 10.30pm. Three were searching my pocket while one of them was cutting my head repeatedly with a sword,” he recounted.

The driver had earlier on accused a director at the county of threatening to kill him for allegedly refusing to help his wife carry a bag of potatoes to their rented apartment in Thindigua estate.

Muhia said the intention of his attackers was to kill him. He alleged being ordered by the County Secretary to withdraw a case he had filed about the officer who had threatened him.

“I was ordered by the County Secretary to withdraw the case against the reinforcement officer as it would taint Governor William Kabogo’s name, and I did.”

The driver, however, did a follow up letter to nullify the withdrawal saying that he had done so under duress.

Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu and Kiambu MCA, Karungo Thang’wa, who visited the driver at Thika Level Four Hospital, condemned the attack saying that the goons had been sent by a senior Kiambu County official.

Muhia was later transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialized treatment.
