Kiambu County in bid to block probe into purchase of Sh360m cars

Kiambu County Government has filed a case in court against Senate Speaker Ekwe Ethuro and the Senate Finance Committee to bar an audit into the purchase of 42 vehicles at a cost of Sh221 million by the county.

In a letter from the county secretary and speaker, Kiambu County is seeking to bar the head of the finance committee, Billow Kerrow, from looking into the controversial purchase through a supplementary budget.

However, in a quick rejoinder, Kerrow faulted the move insisting that the Kiambu secretary and speaker must appear before the committee on Tuesday to proof the purchases were made within the laid down procedures and law.

Kerrow also added that the two county leaders should clarify to the committee whether Kiambu Governor William Kabogo influenced the process.

Governor Kabogo is also summoned on the matter.

He further warned counties heading to court to bar the Senate from performing its oversight role that they would be surcharged for all the county cash they use in court.

Kiambu County Assembly approved the purchase of 72 posh cars, which reportedly cost Sh5 million each.
