Kiambu Doctors, nurses go on strike over salaries

Doctors and Nurses in Kiambu County have this morning downed their tools protesting the delay of their salaries.

The medics assembled at the main entrance to the Kiambu District Hospital where they accused the county government of being insensitive to their plight, saying that their salaries had been delayed for a month.

Through their union spokesperson Loise Mbitiru, they vowed to stay away from their workstations despite hundreds of patients flocking to the facility.

Patients expressed their frustration and appealed to relevant authorities to act in haste to solve the problem.

Yesterday, nurses at the Rift Valley Referral Hospital went on strike demanding the immediate payment of their salaries, which they said had been delayed.

This comes four months after 800 nurses in Mombasa County went on strike over claims that the county government had not remitted their statutory deductions to the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) and National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
