Kiambu leading in numbers of dead voters NASA

The National Super Alliance (NASA) has faulted the final voter register presented by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) alleging that over 400,000 people have been registered twice.

NASA argues that dead voters are still in the ‘clean’ register and there are cases where two voters are registered with the same national identity card.

IEBC had earlier exonerated itself  from the dead voters scuffle, asserting that according to the report given by KPMG it is almost impossible to eliminate dead voters from the register because people will die even at the eve of elections but the bio-metric technology is there to ensure credibility.

In a letter dated July 7, 2017, NASA said that IEBC should do away with the registration anomalies before the General Election.

“The voter register in the IEBC website has 400,685 persons, who have been registered twice,” said the NASA campaign secretariat’s head of operations and delivery, Mr Joe Ager.

The  few mentioned hot spots for irregularities according to NASA are Kiambu with 4,217 cases of double registrations and Mombasa with 2,726 among others.

IEBC has, however, dismissed an instance where a voter votes twice because of the electronic system of voting, which will not permit anyone to vote repeatedly.

“It is not possible for a voter to vote twice, the voting will be electronic and the BVR kits will only capture a voter’s details once,” Ager said.

NASA’s scuffle with IEBC is not yet over as IEBC is yet to secure a printing firm for the presidential ballot papers.
