Kiambu man commits suicide, blames wife

A 27-year-old man committed suicide in Molo area of Juja, Kiambu County by hanging and left a suicide note blaming his wife for the decision to take his own life.

In a suicide note seen by Citizen Digital, the deceased accuses his wife, Jerusha Njoki; a mother of two, of abandoning him when he was ailing.

“Nimesema asante sana, kwa vile umeweza kuniacha nikiwa mgonjwa. Lakini ujue hakuna siku hata moja utawahi kuwa bibi wa mwanaume mwingine kwa maisha yako yote mbele na hata ya nyuma ya mimi,” wrote the deceased in Swahili.

(Thank you for abandoning me while I was ailing. But know that for the rest of your life, you will never get married to someone else.)

Mr. Mwatiati further pronounced a curse on his estranged wife, saying; “Although you told me that your mother bewitched your father, you will not survive my curse. Just wait for me to be buried and you will see what will befall you. No amount of prayers for deliverance will save you.”

The relationship between the deceased and his wife is said to have taken a turn for the worse about two years ago when he lost his job at a Thika-based liquor manufacturing factory.

“Since then, the family’s happier days started coming to a dead end,” said the deceased’s elder brother, Simon Ndirangu. “Because of these domestic challenges, the wife has been going to her parents and coming back now and then.”

According to Ndirangu, Njoki left their matrimonial home with her belongings while her husband was asleep.

Njoki, who took their 3-year-old daughter and even withdrew their first born son from school, is said to have claimed she was attending the burial of a relative in Murang’a.

“Earlier in the day, we were together and there was nothing unusual in him. He even asked me about the Weiteithie incident where a man killed his wife and three kids on Tuesday,” recalled Ndirangu.

“After I told him about the incident, he said it was very disturbing and unfortunate saying it was the work of an insane man.”

Juja OCS, Komo Location Chief Muchui Muiruri and Witeithie Sub-Location Assistant Chief James Gitau Nyoike visited the scene as the body of the deceased was moved to Thika Level 5 General Kago Funeral Home.
