Kiambu MCAs threaten to impeach Governor Kabogo

Members of the Kiambu County Assembly have threatened to move an impeachment motion against Governor William Kabogo over corruption and abuse of office allegations.

Speaking to journalists at his Ruiru home, County Assembly Majority Leader Patrick Chege Wanjiru said they (MCAs) have tried unsuccessfully to get details from the county government on some ‘seemingly dubious’ projects being undertaken in the county, adding that the county administration has perpetually hindered them from carrying out their oversight role.

The majority leader pointed at the Biashara fund, which was allocated Ksh.600 million to promote youth entrepreneurship in the county but which he says has not produced any tangible results.

He condemned the county executive committee member in-charge of gender and youth affairs, Ms Marie Mugo, for failure to account for the money.

The MCA also took issue with the roads department in the county, which he accused of inflating the cost of road construction and maintenance and the health docket that he says has been allocated millions for the purchase of drugs yet patients still buy drugs from private chemists.

He asked the inspector general of police to take action against Governor Kabogo’s cronies, who he said rely on death threats whenever they’re asked to provide answers on the use of public funds.

Mr Wanjiru further claimed that his life is in danger after receiving death threats from people he suspects are insiders in the county government, a matter he has reported to Ruiru Police Station but no action has been taken yet.

The MCAs have now issued a three-day ultimatum to Governor Kabogo to sack county executive committee members in charge of roads, and gender and youth affairs, Henry Wahinya and Marie Mugo respectively, to pave way for investigations into their conduct in office.
