Kiambu text book angers many Kenyans over ethnic undertones
A Standard 4 textbook dubbed Comprehensive Social Studies Kiambu County has appalled many with its controversial content.
The textbook, which is the first county book to make way to its way to public domain has raised eyebrows with the placing of Kenyan tribes and their role in Kiambu county.
For instance, Page 36 of the book reads; “Cushites in Kiambu County include the Somali and the Borana. Most of them moved to Kiambu from other counties to work in offices and trading centres.” This has angered many Kenyans on different social media platforms.
The next paragraph on Nilotes, has equally stirred a lot of emotions.
“The Luo, the Kalenjin, the Turkana, and the Maasai belong to this group. They are mostly found in towns such as Thika, Juja, Ruiru, Kikuyu, Limuru and Kiambu,” it reads. What mostly got netizens riled up was the sentence, “Most of them work in large flower farms, tea farms and coffee farms.”
Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi in a TV interview denied the existence of the book saying; “In present day Kenya, with the kind of leadership we have in the country & in Kiambu county, that kind of a book can’t be in the curriculum.”
The reactions are many and mostly bitter.

This is a social studies book for kiambu county (I do not even know why we have a texbook for a county). Now, the sickest part, read that last paragraph written about nilotes.. Lord have mercy. So will KCPE be different for different counties? This is wrong pic.twitter.com/yW5cGRuXC5

Hello, Sir @FredMatiangi was education also devolved? This is a book for Kiambu County (apparently) feeding the wrong information to the pupils.
I thought books and the curriculum were edited and reviewed seriously by KICD.
Action needs to be taken. https://t.co/QXldRlrE8T

The author of this book was too honest in trying to depict a simple image for a class 4 kid in Kiambu county. Shame on him/her

A Kiambu County Social study text book portrays kikuyu community as superior tribe. Others are casual laborers in flower farms. Another reason why secession must happen to cure that sense of entitlement and preservation #Resist

Kiambu teaching kids social studies that make them view other people as less of Kenyans who shouldn't live in Kiambu County? How did that book get approved by Ministry of Education? How did it even get published?
