Kiambu woman charged with cyber bullying

A middle aged woman was on Tuesday January 30, arraigned at a Thika court and charged with cyber bullying contrary to the Computer and Cyber crimes Act law of Kenya.

While appearing before Thika senior resident magistrate Grace Omuodho , Joyce Muchiri was accused of sending nasty messages using a social site which aggrieved the complainant, Gladys Njoroge, on January 26, in Ruiru ,Kiambu County

The prosecution, led by Peninah Mwangi, argued that cyber bullying has become rampant in the country and Kenyans take it for granted hence requesting the court to punish the accused if found guilty.

Joyce Muchiri however denied the charges and was released on a Ksh.100,000 bond and a cash bail of Ksh. 50,000 with a surety of a similar amount.

The case will be mentioned on 9 May and heard on the 15 June of this year.
