Kidero calls for disbandment of Devolution Ministry

Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero has called for the disbandment of the Ministry of Devolution and Planning and its functions given to the county governments.

Speaking during a burial of the former Cabinet Minister Ambassador Dr. Odero Jowi in Nyatike, Migori County, Kidero said there was a lot of duplication of duties at the Ministry saying that counties are already executing all its functions.

Dr. Kidero said this will help the government in cutting unnecessary spending as well curb corruption in the Ministry.

This follows reports of massive financial impropriety in the Ministry with millions of shillings being lost through dubious deals.

He, however, called for due process to be followed in investigating those accused of graft and if found guilty, necessary action should be taken against them.

His sentiments follow calls to President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack anyone alleged to be behind the controversy surrounding misappropriation of funds at the Ministry.

Addressing a presser in a Mombasa on Sunday, Gichugu Member of Parliament Njogu Barua said; “Some Parliamentary committee members given mandate to conduct public affairs are going round discussing confidential information before presenting it to the House.”

Barua claimed that some infiltrators within Kenyatta’s government were colluding with the opposition Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) to discredit his government in the country.

Devolution CS Anne Waiguru is set to appear before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Tuesday for grilling on the controversial document showing inflation of prices of basic items procured by her Ministry in the 2013 – 2014 Financial Year and loss of over Ksh 791 million at the National Youth Service.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has threatened to mobilize Members of Parliament to support the proposed motion of impeachment against an embattled Waiguru.

ODM national Secretary General Ababu Namwamba said his party will support the motion by Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter to kick out Waiguru out of office over graft allegations.

Moreover Kidero also faulted the court’s decision on the teacher’s salary saying an agreement between two parties can never be negated by a court.
