Kidero, Joho, Ranguma accuse Jubilee govt of economic sabotage

Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero, his Mombasa and Kisumu counterparts Hassan Joho and Jack Ranguma have threatened to sue the government over alleged economic marginalization and sabotage.

In a strongly worded statement to newsrooms, the governors are accusing the Uhuru government of failing to release over Ksh.69 billion in land rates owed to City Hall, dumping of cheap fish imports from China in Kisumu and the transfer of port operations from Mombasa County.

While threatening to mobilize people to protest the alleged economic sabotage, the governors have demanded; an immediate disbursement of the 69 billion owed to Nairobi County, immediate formulation of a sharing policy and disbursement of port revenue to Mombasa County and cessation of any actions leading to the transfer of port operations away from the city of Mombasa and a moratorium on the importation of cheap fish from China to Kenya.

On his part, Kidero says that these resources would have been channeled towards hiring doctors and nurses, repairing county roads, easing traffic congestion and establishing markets for small scale traders, efforts he claims are all being frustrated by the Jubilee brigade led by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.

“They are starving Nairobi of financial oxygen,” read the statement in part.

“It is no secret that the duo has declared its interest in winning the leadership of Nairobi City County. It is regrettable that they intend to do so regardless of the cost to Nairobians who are left suffering as Jubilee pursues this self-serving agenda,” Kidero alleged.

On his part, Joho claimed that he was forced to hire private premises to house his government yet there are available and appropriate government buildings that Jubilee chose to allocate to junior officers.

In Kisumu, Ranguma claims that the local economy is on its knees after Jubilee allowed importation of cheap fish from China to the detriment of local fishermen.

“This strategy of economic subjugation by Jubilee in our counties is diabolical and must cease forthwith as it goes against the spirit and the letter of the Constitution,” read the statement.
