Kidero, Peter Kenneth to compete on merit

Nairobi governor, Dr Evans Kidero, and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth have agreed to compete on development agenda as opposed to mud slinging and inciting followers.

The two political heavy weights in Nairobi County gubernatorial race came together at a Thanksgiving Ceremony for Mothers Union of ACK Good Samaritan church in Ruai, Nairobi.

The two leaders disclosed that they have been good friends for a long time and political ambitions will not set them apart.

“When I lost my late wife, PK came all the way to Asumbi. Would he have come if he was not my friend?” Said Governor Kidero.

“Their (leaders) children drink together, eat together, go to school together and later marry among themselves,” added Kidero.

Kidero and Kenneth urged their supporters to remain peaceful and steadfast during the electioneering period, as they battle it out to control the country’s capital city.

On his part, Kenneth said that the electorates should be the winners in the contest adding that the competition is on ‘who can deliver better services’ to the people.

Kenneth, however, punched holes on Governor Kidero’s development record saying that the city is still littered with garbage and clogged up sewer system.

He promised to replicate his development record when he was the MP for Gatanga to Nairobi.

Kidero said that his Nairobi County government has prioritized eradicating land grabbing menace in the city noting that political leaders are the major culprits in illegal land acquisition syndicate.

“As long as I am the governor they (Land grabbers) have no way. We are put a total of 1447 acres of public utility land, together with the National land commission (NLC), for recovery,” Said Kidero.

Kidero promised to revert expired land leases in Nairobi to their original owners.

The governor, however, took a swipe at Peter Kenneth warning him to be cautious of his political future after downscaling his presidential ambitions in 2013 to a governor’s seat in 2017.

“Instead of going up, you are coming down. You might later be compelled to run for an MCA seat,” Kidero warned Kenneth.
