Kidero postpones opening of New county assembly chambers

The launch of the new Nairobi County Assembly chambers has been postponed after President Uhuru Kenyatta skipped the event amid alleged threats to disrupt the function by a section of Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD).

Governor Evans Kidero announced the cancellation even as he failed to give reasons for the move, after the President failed to show up despite an earlier confirmation.

Before the move by Kidero, a section of youth carrying placards held protests outside City Hall with messages accusing County Assembly Majority Leader, Elius Okumu, of allegedly mishandling them.

Kidero says a new date for the official launch of the chamber opening will be announced by the assembly in due course.
