Kidnapper of four-year old arraigned in a Mombasa Court

A man was today charged at the Shanzu Law Court in Mombasa County for allegedly kidnapping a 4-year old baby boy and threatening to harm him.

Kennedy Ogora Francis alias David Nyang’au Ogedi, faced three counts relating to kidnapping before Principal Magistrate Anastasia Ndugu.

The suspect was arrested on Saturday by security agencies after he tried kidnapping Kennedy Micheni Mbaka at Mishomoroni area in Kisauni.

In the first count, the accused is alleged to have kidnapped the minor with intent to put him in danger of grievous harm, while in the second count, he demanded money by written threats.

On the third count, the suspect was accused of attempting to extorting money through threats.

The court was informed that he allegedly demanded Ksh 25,000 from Daniel Mbaka, the father of the baby and threatened to harm the child if the money was not sent to him.

The accused is said to have written threatening messages to the father of the minor using his Safaricom cellphone number.

He pleaded guilty to the first count but denied the second and third counts saying the Safaricom number purported to have been used in demanding ransom was not his.

State prosecutor Gladys Ollimu told the court that police needed more time for investigate the matter further, so as to get more information on the matter.

The matter will be heard on Tuesday, July 19th.
