Kieni dam to help address food insecurity
Kieni residents have expressed optimism that they will sufficiently defeat food insecurity after the National Youth Service (NYS) commenced a dam digging project in the constituency.
Speaking after officially launching the project, area Member of Parliament Kanini Kega said the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) will work closely with National Youth Service (NYS) to ensure that a proper water network has been put in place to support farming.
He added that reliance on relief food has given a bad name to the area saying that addressing water problem will be the only solution to low productivity in the area.
The project if completed is expected to serve over 3,000 locals with enough water supplies, both for domestic use and small scale irrigation.
The MP further noted that the dam will help in job creation as more and more young people will now engage in small and large scale farming.
